About ten or so years ago I saw an advert that got me excited. It was for solar garden lights. These clever little devices soaked up power from the sun all day and at night fed it back you in the form of path lighting in the garden. This was a revolution in garden lighting and in solar power technology.Since then solar lights have been adapted to create all sorts of wonderful effects in the garden and the home. So what kind of products are now available?
Solar Garden Lights
This category is for the decorative type of solar light. Think of a way to light your garden and there is probably a solar light that will fit the bill. You can find patio lights that look like mini table lamps just waiting to illuminate the summer evenings. Parasol down lighters attach to your parasol via a magnet, soaking up the rays by day and creating soft pools of light beneath the parasol at night.
If you want some drama, bright new LED up lighters and spotlights will turn your trees and garden sculpture into a luminous feature by night and transform your garden. For some midsummer nights magic, solar fairy lights dotted amongst the trees can make a little girls dream come true. For a sophisticated look deck lights, recessed or mobile exist to light up your patio decking and create interest at night.
For a really crazy idea, my favourite is the solar garden planter. This flower pot can be planted up and placed in the garden with the panel on a spike next to it. At night it glows white or pink, depending on your choice. For great effect in a small garden or yard, these would look great placed in a raised bed against a yard wall. In a large garden placing these plants in groups around the garden lawn is a great way to showcase them.
Practical Solar Lighting
Solar outdoor lighting has developed to address the more practical lighting needs of today as well. For more practical concerns solar security lights are now available with movement sensors. Also shed lighting, to help you when accessing the shed at night.
Indoor Solar Lighting
Its no longer the case that you can only have solar lights outdoors. Finally the power of the sun is making its way inside in the form of a terrific new childrens night light. A cute ladybug night light, can be placed on your kids bedroom window. At night, it lights up to provide a comforting night light for them at bedtime. If you really like a coordinated look you can also coordinate your night light with your kids bedding or bedroom furniture to complete the look.
